Common questions
Before you begin
Who owns my voice and my recordings?
Today the Avatar does not use a clone of your voice: when it cannot play your original recording, it speaks your words in a stand-in voice. Your voice recordings and transcripts are never sold, and are never used for advertising. Voice processing is provided by ElevenLabs (in the United States) and is consented to explicitly during signup. If a copy of your voice is ever made, you can delete it yourself at any time in Account → Data & Privacy → Your voice copy. Your recordings and stories stay.
Can I delete everything?
Yes. You can permanently delete any story yourself from Account → Data & Privacy, and its stored files are removed within a day. For deletion of your entire account and all associated data, a written request under our Privacy Policy is honoured within 30 days, with backups clearing within a further 30 days; payment records are retained for 7 years as Canadian tax law requires. One exception: Memorial Mode, which is coming soon. It will permanently seal an archive: once it completes, that archive can never again be changed or deleted.
What if I don't use all my sessions?
Your session credits never expire. Record on your own schedule — one session this month, the next whenever you're ready. And if you change your mind, here is the policy in full: No paid sessions recorded: full refund within 14 days — your free warmup never counts; Partly used: a refund for the sessions you haven’t recorded, within 14 days; All sessions used: contact us and we’ll review it together; Monthly Subscription: a full refund of your first payment within 14 days if you haven’t recorded a paid session — it ends straight away, minimum or not; for any other payment, contact us and we’ll review it together.
Can I buy this for a parent?
Yes — many families start Quiddity for a parent or grandparent. During signup, uncheck “I am the person whose story will be preserved,” confirm you're authorized to consent on their behalf, and enter their name. The archive is created as theirs, and you help them participate in sessions — many of the best recordings happen with family in the room.

Only what you allow. Every Guardian has a “Can view stories while I'm alive” permission that you control, and every story carries its own audience setting — only you, family, one specific person, or everyone. Stories marked “Only me” are never visible to anyone else, and no one else sees a story unless its audience includes them. These rules are enforced at the database layer, not just in the app.
What does “permanent” mean here?
It means three specific things, and we would rather be exact than reassuring. Your recordings and your word-for-word transcripts are yours: once saved, a transcript is never edited, and only you can change a story — by re-recording it. From Account → Export Your Archive you can download everything yourself, free: a ZIP with your recordings, every story word for word, your photos, videos and voice notes, and a page that lets you browse it all without the internet. You can also download a PDF of your stories’ words. You do not have to ask us for it. And nothing is ever deleted because a payment stopped: your session credits never expire, and a missed or cancelled monthly payment leaves everything you recorded in place.
