What is Quiddity?
Quiddity is a voice-first way to tell and keep a life story — your own, or the story of someone you love. An AI Biographer interviews you out loud, one question at a time. Every word you say is preserved exactly as spoken — never rewritten, summarized, or polished — and each story is shared only with the people you choose.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Quiddity runs in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. There is nothing to install and nothing to type: sessions happen out loud.
Who is Quiddity for?
Anyone with a story worth telling. You do not need to be old, ill, or planning for anything. Quiddity is for people in the United States and Canada: people telling their own story, and families recording someone they love.
How much does it cost?
Your first conversation is a free 5-minute warmup, and it needs no credit card. After that you buy recorded sessions in one-time packs: nothing renews, and your session credits never expire. Paid sessions run up to 40 minutes each. The pricing page lists every pack and its current price.
What if I don't use all my sessions?
Your session credits never expire. Record on your own schedule — one session this month, the next whenever you're ready. And if you change your mind, here is the policy in full: No paid sessions recorded: full refund within 14 days — your free warmup never counts; Partly used: a refund for the sessions you haven’t recorded, within 14 days; All sessions used: contact us and we’ll review it together.
Can I buy this for a parent?
Yes — many families start Quiddity for a parent or grandparent. During signup, uncheck “I am the person whose story will be preserved,” confirm you're authorized to consent on their behalf, and enter their name. The archive is created as theirs, and you help them participate in sessions — many of the best recordings happen with family in the room.
Who can see my stories?
Only what you allow. Every Guardian has a “Can view stories while I'm alive” permission that you control, and every story carries its own audience setting — only you, family, one specific person, or everyone. Stories marked “Only me” are never visible to anyone else, and stories you set to release on memorial stay sealed until Memorial Mode is activated. Only a Guardian you have chosen can request it, you are emailed the moment they do, and you have 72 hours to cancel. These rules are enforced at the database layer, not just in the app.
How does the Avatar work?
The Avatar lets you, and the people you share with, ask a question and hear an answer from your archive. It answers only with words you actually recorded, word for word. It never invents a sentence, paraphrases, or summarizes. When a usable original recording of the passage exists, the Avatar plays it. When one does not, it speaks your exact words in a synthetic stand-in voice — not a clone of yours. Each answer names the story it came from, and tells you when you are hearing the original recording. If you never talked about something, it says so instead of guessing. The Avatar is included with the Full Legacy pack. Any other archive can add it with a one-time Avatar Activation ($99.99 USD).
Who owns the voice clone?
Today the Avatar does not use a clone of your voice: when it cannot play your original recording, it speaks your words in a stand-in voice. Your voice recordings and transcripts are never sold, and are never used for advertising. Voice processing is provided by ElevenLabs (in the United States) and is consented to explicitly during signup. You can request deletion of your voice data at any time under our Privacy Policy.
What is Memorial Mode?
Memorial Mode is optional, and it is meant for after you’re gone. It closes your archive as a finished book, shared with the people you named. It is deliberately irreversible and enforced at the database layer: once it completes, nothing in the archive can be edited, added, or deleted. That is why it asks you first. Only a Guardian you have chosen can request it, you are emailed the moment they do, and you have 72 hours to cancel. A sealed archive has a memorial page, which a QR code can point to.
Can I delete everything?
Yes. You can permanently delete any story yourself from Account → Data & Privacy, and its stored files are removed within a day. For deletion of your entire account and all associated data, a written request under our Privacy Policy is honoured within 30 days, with backups clearing within a further 30 days; payment records are retained for 7 years as Canadian tax law requires. One exception: Memorial Mode permanently seals an archive. Only a Guardian you have chosen can request it, you are emailed the moment they do, and you have 72 hours to cancel. Once it completes, that archive can no longer be changed or deleted.
What does “permanent” mean here?
It means three specific things, and we would rather be exact than reassuring. Your recordings and your word-for-word transcripts are yours: once saved, a transcript is never edited, and only you can change a story — by re-recording it. You can download your whole archive as a PDF today, from Account → Export Your Archive; you do not have to ask us, and it is not a paid extra. And there is no subscription — every purchase is one-time and your session credits never expire, so nothing is ever deleted because a payment stopped.
