Setting this up for a parent?

You do the setup. Your parent just talks. Here is what each of you does.

Will my parent manage it?

Most likely, yes. There is nothing to type and nothing to learn.

A friendly voice asks one question at a time. Your parent answers out loud.

The first talk is free and lasts 5 minutes. It is a gentle way to try it together.

What does my parent do?

They talk. That is all.

  • They sit somewhere quiet with a computer, tablet or phone.
  • The first time, the screen asks to use the microphone. Tap Allow.
  • The voice asks a question. They answer in their own words.
  • The voice waits while they think. There is no rush.
  • Every word is kept just as they said it. Nothing is cleaned up.

What do I do?

You can do all of this in one sitting.

  1. Sign up with an email and a password. If your parent has their own email, you can use it.
  2. Fill in the details about your parent, not about you.
  3. On the consent page, untick “I am the person whose story will be preserved.”
  4. Tick the box that says you are legally authorized to consent on their behalf. Only tick it if that is true.
  5. Type your parent’s full name where it asks.
  6. Read the box about voice recordings with your parent before you tick it.
  7. Sit with your parent for the free first talk.

Not sure the consent box fits you? Your parent can sign up as themselves, with you beside them.

What if they get stuck?

You can sit beside them the whole time.

If the call does not connect, a Try Again button appears. Nothing is recorded, and it does not count.

They can stop at any time with the End Session button.

Who can hear their stories?

Each story has its own setting. There are four choices:

  • Only me — kept just for your parent.
  • One person — someone your parent picks.
  • Family — all of their Guardians. This is where new stories start.
  • Everyone — anyone with a Quiddity account.

Guardians are the family members your parent chooses to invite. For each one, your parent can say whether that person can see stories now.

Whoever is signed in can change these settings. So talk them through together.

One sign-in, shared

You and your parent share one sign-in. It is the email and password you chose.

Anyone who has that email and password can open the account. That includes you.

Setting it up does not make you a Guardian. You just know the sign-in.

There is no button to hand the account over. If your parent wants it on their own email, write to us and we will help.
